For my Forgotten Currencies project, I designed the typefaces by extracting letters from the images of coins I took in the coin section of the British Museum. Using a digital adaptation of a childhood technique—where I’d trace the bumps of coins by shading over them on paper—I digitally traced the details of the coins to recreate each letter. After applying this process to numerous coins, I gathered multiple variations of each letter. The result was a stunning, authentic typeface that perfectly captures the vintage essence of Forgotten Currencies, adding an old-world charm to the project.
